Journey around the world, Kigali - Rwanda: Child Poverty

This weekend I visited the Niyo Cultural Centre (Non-Profit Organization), which takes care of street children in Kigali.

Some of these children are orphans, others half-orphan and others where the parents cannot take care of the children.

Rwanda is still one of the poorest countries in the world and many people can only afford one meal a day. 31% of the population is undernourished according to the statistics of the World Bank and Rwanda occupies 12 place in world comparison.

The centre takes care of 120 children.

The centre tries to finance the school education and a meal a day. Often the children eat rice with beans or porridge. The children are also taught in traditional dances and singing. Exercises are held every Saturday morning. Without government support, the centre exists with donations from around the world. The founder, Niyonsenga Pacifique, works with some small NGOs from America who collect donations with special actions.

In the photos, the children can be seen dancing and singing. A little girl had taken me to her heart and stayed with me all the time. She also showed me her treasures: a small rope, two coins worth 0.002 cents, a zipper and a little bit of sprinkling sugar, that another child had spread into her hand. The little girl licked several minutes and could not believe her luck.

Am Wochenende besuchte ich das Niyo Cultural Centre ( Non Profit Organisation), das sich um Straßenkinder in Kigali kümmert.

Einige dieser Kinder sind Waise, andere Halbwaise und bei anderen können sich die Eltern nicht um die Kinder kümmern.

Ruanda gehört noch immer zu den ärmsten Ländern der Welt und viele Menschen können sich nur eine Mahlzeit am Tag leisten. 31% der Bevölkerung ist laut Statistik der Weltbank unterernährt und Ruanda belegt den 12 Platz im Weltvergleich.

Das Zentrum kümmert sich um 120 Kinder.

Das Zentrum bemüht sich den Kindern eine Schulausbildung zu finanzieren und einer Mahlzeit am Tag. Oft essen die Kinder Reis mit Bohnen oder Haferschleim. Die Kinder werden auch in traditionalen Tänzen und Gesängen unterrichtet. Jeden Samstagmorgen sind Proben angesetzt. Ohne staatliche Unterstützung lebt das Zentrum von Spenden aus der ganzen Welt. Der Gründer Niyonsenga Pacifique arbeitet mit einigen kleinen NGO’s aus Amerika zusammen, die mit speziellen Aktionen Spenden sammeln.

Auf den Fotos sind die Kinder beim Tanzen und Singen zu sehen. Ein kleines Mädchen hatte mich gleich in ihr Herz geschlossen und sie blieb die ganze Zeit bei mir. Sie zeigte mir auch ihre Schätze: ein kleines Seil, zwei Münzen deren Wert bei 0,002 Cent liegt, ein Zipper und ein bisschen Brausezucker, dass ihr ein anderes Kind in die Hand gestreut hatte. Die Kleine leckte minutenlang an der Brause und konnte ihr Glück kaum fassen.

Este fin de semana visitó el Centro Cultural NIYO (Organización sin fines de lucro), que se ocupa de niños de la calle en Kigali.

Algunos de estos niños son huérfanos, otros medio-huérfana y otras de los cuales los padres no pueden hacerse cargo de los niños.

En las fotos, los niños pueden ser vistos bailando y cantando. Una niña me había llevado a su corazón y se quedó conmigo todo el tiempo. También me mostró sus tesoros: una pequeña cuerda, dos monedas de un valor de 0,002 centavos, una cremallera y un poco de azúcar aspersión, que otro niño le había echado en su mano. La niña lamió varios minutos y no podía creer su suerte.
